Gifts of time and love are surely the best ingredients of a truly Merry Christmas!
~ Peg Bracken
Has anyone started thinking about Christmas yet? Are there any Christmas sewing plans out there?
Last year, for Christmas, one of my friends from work got me this book:
Usually, when sewing Christmas gifts for my friends at work, I pick the pattern and keep it a secret, but let my friends pick their fabrics.
This year, I'm thinking of letting each person pick a project from this book AND his/her fabric(s).
Of course, the gifts will lose the element of surprise... but sometimes it's worth giving up the surprise in order to get exactly what you want.
Plus, I kind of like the idea of making (up to) 9 DIFFERENT things, instead of 9 versions of the same thing! (Now that I've said that, wouldn't it be funny if almost everyone ended up picking the same pattern?)
I shall report back on what everyone chooses. In the meantime, let me know what you are thinking about for Christmas. :)
I don't have that book, but have heard good reviews about it. I have to make a gift for an exchange in one of my sewing groups. It has to be something for the sewing room, made from stash, and can only spend a total of $5 for anything else needed. I have to start thinking about that.
ReplyDeleteHi Gwen,
DeleteThere are tons of cute pincushion patterns out there - have you thought about that?
Also, I have something like this in my sewing room that I use all the time:

Mine looks a little different - but the idea is the same - a small bean bag holds the little scrap bag on the side of my sewing machine table...
Whatever you pick, have fun! :)
Hi Gwen,
ReplyDeleteLong time lurker but I think this is the first time I've commented. I love your blog!
I made one of these gym toiletries bags a few months ago: http://www.ourbusylittlebunch.com/2011/06/camping-shower-bag-tutorial.html
It is awesome so I am planning to make some for my friends that also go to the gym. It was really easy and useful.

Hi Ellen,
DeleteThanks so much for your comment - and especially the link! What a cute and useful idea! At least one of my friends enjoys camping and one works out regularly (although he is a guy, so he may not actually use much bathroom stuff), so I'll definitely add this to the set of Christmas gift options for my friends...
Thanks again! Have fun making yours this fall! :)
All the best,
Gwen
Hi Gwen,
DeleteIt's a really fast project. My favorite thing is that it makes carrying regular-sized bottles of shampoo, etc., easy. Those travel-sized ones are a real pain.
Ellen
"Fast" is always a good thing! And you're right - those travel-sized bottles are worthless - especially for something like working out three times a week - you constantly have to replace them...
